Great Article: Gloria Grahame on Slate

From the article:
Billy Grady, head of casting at MGM, answered in the affirmative: “For Chrissake, I’m up to here in blonde pussies that have never been to the post.” Grady showed Capra some tests, and when Capra asked about one of them in particular, the casting man replied, “She’s a star, but do you think I can get any of our jerks to listen? Two years she’s been around here snapping her garters. You can have her for a cup of coffee. Name’s Gloria Grahame.”
I love Hollywood gossip and a slight tinge of tarnish to the silver screen as much as anyone else, but I especially love it when it hits the era of Film Noir. Today we have a wonderful article over on Slate about Gloria Grahame in the film It's a Wonderful Life. Check this one out, it is all about the casting system of the era, her rise to fame in Noir films, a Las Vegas divorce, and so much more.

Snapping her garters? That quote above floors me, just a wonderful peek into the not-so-innocent days of a great American era when we thought it was all apple pie, innocent times, and June Cleaver. I am in love today with a star and the times in which she lived.
